Micheal Jordan is widely considered the greatest basketball player of all time. His resume is unmatched: six-time NBA champion, five-time MVP and a 14-time NBA All-Star. Jordan was also known as one of the top defensive players in the league, earning the Defensive Player of the Year Award in 1988. The list goes on and on.
This article is not about his accomplishments though; this article is dedicated to the reason he earned the nicknames "Air Jordan" and "His Airness." Jordan is the first player ever to win back-to-back slam dunk competitions, doing so in 1987 and 1988. Known for his incredibly high vertical leap, Micheal has left us with some jaw-dropping slam dunks, leaving several in awe and forcing many to say he is the greatest dunker ever.
Here are the top 10 slam dunks of Michael Jordan's career.
Jordan Dunks on Moses Malone
1 of 10
Jordan never cared who you were; if you were in his way, you were another victim.
This time it happens to be three-time MVP Moses Malone. Jordan fakes a pass, cuts hard to the cup and TIMBER.
He makes it look so easy.
Jordan Dunks on Tree Rollins
2 of 10
This dunk was sweet. Jordan gets the ball and fakes a pass to a wide open Charles Oakley to draw two defenders and then jumps out of the gym to throw it down on Tree Rollins.
How about Oakley sticking his finger in Rollins' face? He just ended up on some eight-year-old's poster, give him a break.
Jordan Throws It Down on Alonzo Mourning
3 of 10
On a fast break, Jordan receives the pass and believes he can fly over dominant shot-blocker Alonzo Mourning.
Jordan had a lot of people believing they could fly too after seeing dunks like this.
Jordan Rocks the Cradle vs. the Knicks
4 of 10
Jordan once again steals the ball, takes it down the floor and rocks the baby to sleep.
If this dunk was done in a dunk contest it would be pretty impressive. Jordan did it in the middle of a game! Just imagine if he missed; he would never have heard the end of it. Glad he didn't, though, because it makes for a good video.
Jordan Slams One Down Against the Sonics
5 of 10
This dunk really showed how much of a competitor Jordan was. With the Bulls up five over the Sonics and 11 seconds left, Jordan steals the ball and throws down a fancy dunk.
He didn't steal the ball and run out the clock; he wanted to put the nail in the coffin himself.
That's how you finish a game.
Jordan Dunks on the Big Dog
6 of 10
Once he crossed half court, he knew what he was going to do with it.
The tongue came out, and up, up and away—he rises over Glenn Robinson.
And one, please.
Jordan Dunks on Kelly Tripucka
7 of 10
This is how you know Jordan was just on another level. He had two open teammates but instead takes it himself and rises over a 6'6" forward.
Jordan gets the steal, crosses up one defender and throws it down on poor Kelly Tripucka.
He never had a chance.
Jordan Reverse Dunk on Manute Bol
8 of 10
Jordan gets the rebound, and goes baseline for the reverse dunk.
Now, normally Jordan would just rise above whoever gets in his way, but this time it is Manute Bol who happens to be 7'7".
Guess if you can't go over them, you go around them and throw it down.
Jordans Free-Throw Line Dunk
9 of 10
Yeah, so what this dunk has been done by a few other people.
Jordan wasn't a good foot inside the free-throw line like Erving was and didn't travel like Ibaka did. May sound silly but it does make the takeoff a little bit harder.
Jordan ended up winning the contest and added another accomplishment to his resume.
Jordan Dunks on Patrick Ewing
10 of 10
Scottie Pippen wasn't the only one to put Patrick Ewing on a poster. His superior teammate had his chance as well.
Jordan seems to be trapped along the baseline but somehow shakes free. He then is face to face with Hall of Fame center Patrick Ewing. They both go up, but as always, Jordan seems to get just a little bit higher than everyone else.
Did I mention he got the foul as well?
